What a wonderful celebration we had on the first Saturday night of Ramadaan back in 2010! Over 300 people attended and an absolutely fantastic atmosphere prevailed. Unfortunately, for those who could not make it for some reason, you did miss out on quite a wonderful night of charity.
Many ulema were present including the grandchildren (aalims) of Sheikh Zakariyya (RA). A few Egyptian ulema attended as well. The talking point however, was the soft potatoes and tender chicken of the akni. No doubt a midnight feast fit for a king!
Jazakallah to AR Randeree, NM Rajah and their team for a great sacrifice in setting up the event and for doing all the hard work on Saturday morning. You did us proud once again. Also, a big thank you to Saleem Paruk, Mohammed Essack, Thaher Jhavery and their kids for sacrificing many hours on Sunday morning accompanying us to Blackburn village and Waterloo, and personally distributing hampers to all our cases.
Your sacrifice whilst fasting in loading and off-loading the food was extremely heart-warming.
No doubt the best time to collect zakaat is during this month. Fortunately, for Orient Old Boys we have already distributed all the food so to collect monies now should be very easy and many want to give towards this type of charity.
Once again, well done to all those who rallied together to make our annual hamper packing event a memorable one. I know that your reward from your creator will be magnanimous.
